Strength of Support for the Statutory Regulation
of Sports Therapists
at the Highest Level
On May 11th 2006, it was formally agreed by the Health
Professions Council ‘to recommend to the Secretary of State that, in
the interests of public protection, Sports Therapists should be
regulated.’
Since this momentous decision was made, The Society of Sports
Therapists has subsequently been involved in consultation meetings
looking to move the process forward with regard to the academic
criteria and requirements to be implemented at the point of
regulation. More details on where we are will be made available in
the near future.
In the meantime, The Society of Sports Therapists, instrumental in
initiating and facilitating the original application feels that it
is appropriate to highlight a small percentage of the letters of
support that it received when making the application.
Letters of support came from all levels and backgrounds and, as can
be seen from some of the examples shown, support was received from
some highly significant people and organisations in sport, sports
medicine and healthcare in the UK today.
