The Society of Sports Therapists’ Student Travelling Scholarship
The University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada
Over the last five years The Society of Sports Therapists has offered one Graduate the opportunity to complete a fantastic six week Travelling Scholarship to the University of Windsor and associated Athletic Therapy areas. The lucky Graduate has had the privilege of working alongside staff within the Green Shield Sports Therapy Clinic, including Athletic Therapists Kathy Harvie and David Stoute, and has experienced accompanying University teams in pre-season training and match preparation.
In addition the internship has offered opportunities to spend time at Loaring Physiotherapy, one of Canada’s leading Physiotherapy Clinics, and with the Windsor Spitfires, one of the most successful and highest level of youth development hockey teams in Canada.
In the final part of the trip the winner has visited Sheridan College in Oakville near Toronto, integrating with Students and Staff associated with their Athletic Therapy Programme, as well as visiting professional sports teams, baseball, ice-hockey and grid-iron football in the area.
The Student Travelling Scholarship is open to students who are expected to attain a First Class BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy Degree from a University that collaborates with The Society of Sports Therapists. The intention of the internship is to build upon the knowledge and expertise students have already gained from their degree, in a professional environment. Previous winners of the Student Travelling Scholarship all viewed the academic and cultural experiences they gained in Canada as ‘life changing.’
