Congratulations to Society Member Joel Harris who has been appointed Soft Tissue Therapist to the England Senior Men’s Football Team. The University of Hertfordshire Senior Lecturer in Sports Therapy moves up from looking after the England  U20 and U21 squads; a role he has carried out over the last four years. Joel will be traveling with the team for international games, which includes a series of forthcoming European World Cup qualifying games throughout 2017, as well as attending training camps and being on pitch side during matches.

Joel, a former Metropolitan Police Detective should have no problems making the adjustment to Senior level as he spent 10 years working in a similar roles at Arsenal football club. He will fit his responsibilities around his day job working at the Hatfield based university.Joel said:

“I am delighted and extremely proud to have been asked to work for the England football team. It is a real pleasure to work with such a dedicated group of people including Gareth Southgate who is doing a fantastic job.’

One person who was particularly delighted on hearing of the appointment was Society Chairman Professor Graham N.Smith. He said:

‘This appointment is a great reflection on Joel and all of the hard work that he has put over the years, not only while he was Sports Therapist at Arsenal Football Club but more latterly in a similar role with the England U21 Squad. His appointment is something of which, we in The Society of Sports Therapists are extremely proud; seeing a member of Joel’s calibre being recognised and acknowledged.

‘As someone who has been a part of his journey through Sports Therapy, I am particularly proud that a colleague and friend is an integral part of what we hope will become an extremely successful management and support team

‘I am sure that , as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, Joel’s appointment and experiences will undoubtedly benefit the students whom he teaches and also demonstrate what can be achieved with hard work and dedication’.
