Michael Cole, Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader of BSc Sports Therapy at the University of East London, has received an award for inspirational teaching.
The UELSU (University of East London Students’ Union) Student Led Teaching Awards recognise academic and support staff who are committed to delivering great teaching and enhancing the student experience. All award nominations come from the students themselves.
Michael won the Extra Mile award, which recognised his inspirational teaching methods. He said, “…the most important things for me are for the students to feel like they belong, believe they can achieve, develop their criticality, and use their time with me as a platform to go on to greater things when they leave UEL, particularly as effective 'Graduate Sports Therapists'! That being said, a close second to all of that are these student-led teaching nominations, and this award. It does make a huge positive difference to know that I am valued in this way.”
One of his students commented: "Michael is the most enthusiastic lecturer I have ever seen. His passion for Sports Therapy is unbelievable, and this excitement he has when he talks about it inspires me to become a successful therapist."
