The 2019 Society of Sports Therapists Bruce Hobbs Travelling Scholarships – Apply NOW

The Society of Sports Therapists is pleased to announce that applications for the 2019 Bruce Hobbs Travelling Scholarships are now open. These Scholarships will give two Members a fantastic opportunity to travel across the Atlantic to the USA to boost their knowledge and skills at either Duke University, North Carolina, or Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Virginia.

Duke University

The winning applicant who will be heading to Duke University will have the opportunity to spend time with the Physical Therapists, Orthopaedic Specialists, Athletic Trainers and Coaches at Duke Health, a world renowned Sport and Exercise Therapy Centre. Last year’s winner, Richard Luddington, enjoyed experiencing life as part of a medical team in American collegiate sport, and was greatly impressed by the top quality medical facilities at Duke University. You can read Richard’s reflection on his trip here.

Virginia Commonwealth University

For the Member who will be visiting VCU, an equally exciting and educational trip awaits. The successful candidate will be spending time at Virginia Commonwealth University Sports Medicine Clinic, shadowing experienced experts in the Sports Therapy and Sports Medicine field. The winning Member will be surrounded by top quality facilities and will spend time with leading therapists, orthopaedic specialists and athletes. Rachel Lund was the winner of last year’s Scholarship to VCU and experienced a range of great opportunities, taking plenty of fresh ideas back to use as part of her own sports therapy practice. Find out more about her trip here.

These two Society of Sports Therapists Bruce Hobbs Travelling Scholarships are named after Bruce Hobbs, a Sports Therapist who graduated from the first Society of Sports Therapists accredited degree programme. Bruce lost his battle against Motor Neurone Disease in 2010. He was a great teacher and lecturer and continued to inspire those around him throughout his illness. The Society believes that everybody should take the opportunities available to them to travel, learn and experience different cultures and philosophies, so it is hoped that these Scholarships will both keep Bruce’s memory alive, along with providing Members with the opportunity to broaden their horizons and existing skillset.

With two incredible opportunities to choose from, could 2019 be your year?
